Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage is a Key Priority of Turkmenistan's State Policy

Oficial news
Turkmenistan places paramount importance on the preservation of cultural heritage, development of traditional crafts, and folk arts. A necessary legal and institutional framework is being established for this purpose, reports TDH. This is evidenced by the adopted package of legislative acts covering the operation of libraries, museums, and archives, issues of creating and restoring cultural values, their protection and development, regulation of cross-border movement, safeguarding information resources, and protection of historical monuments. The country maintains close cooperation with international humanitarian organizations, including UNESCO, UNICEF, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and other organizations. A priority area is the protection and study of national heritage, promotion of Turkmenistan's contribution to world culture, and expansion of partnership with UNESCO, in which Turkmenistan has been a member since 1993. The establishment of the National Commission for UNESCO Affairs in 2020 marked a significant milestone in developing relations with the UN. A key objective of the state strategy is researching the history of the Turkmen people, preserving and internationally promoting their material and spiritual culture. The country's museum institutions play a central role in this process. Within the framework of the "State Program for 2022–2028 on the Preservation of National Historical and Cultural Heritage Sites, Their Protection and Study, and Tourism Development," scientific expeditions and restoration works were organized at historical monuments during the spring and autumn seasons last year. Artifacts discovered during archaeological excavations – a horse figurine, ceramic items, metal stirrups, arrowheads, household objects, clay vessels, a silver coin, and other finds – confirm that in medieval Turkmen cities, alongside science and culture, craft production and trade relations actively developed.
