Vanessa Murtazina, a resident of Ashgabat, has successfully climbed Mount Elbrus via the southern route. According to her, the achievement required serious physical preparation, endurance, and determination. Vanessa herself, who wrote to the Turkmenportal editorial team, noted that there is very little publicly available information about Turkmen women who have climbed Elbrus — and it was precisely this that motivated her to share her experience and photos from the ascent.
The climb took place on June 6, 2026. According to her certificate, Vanessa Murtazina reached the summit of Elbrus, situated at an altitude of 5,642 meters above sea level. She expressed hope that her story would be of interest to Turkmenistan's sporting community and inspire other mountain enthusiasts and active lifestyle advocates.
Elbrus is the highest peak in Russia and Europe, located in the Caucasus in the Kabardino-Balkaria region. The twin-peaked stratovolcano reaches a height of 5,642 meters above sea level. The southern route is considered the most popular among climbers — it is technically less demanding than the northern route, but still requires good physical fitness and acclimatization. Elbrus is part of the "Seven Summits" list — the highest mountains on each of the seven continents — making it a goal for climbers from around the world.
